Suspended Jack Colback must ‘suffer the consequences’ at Newcastle

BAN ... Jack Colback.
BAN ... Jack Colback.

JOHN Carver’s told suspended Jack Colback that he will have to “suffer the consequences” after picking up a two-game ban.

A frustrated Colback collected his 10th booking of the season, and an automatic suspension, for throwing the ball away in Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The midfielder will miss Saturday’s home game against Aston Villa, and the March 4 fixture against Manchester United at St James’s Park.

Head coach Carver had warned Colback about his conduct before the City match given that he was one booking away from a ban.

And Carver – who branded the 25-year-old’s actions as “stupid” – has suggested that Colback will face club discipline for his yellow card.

“It was stupid, and I’ve told Jack that,” said Carver.

“I could understand it had it been for a tackle, but to throw the ball away?

“I spoke to him as well. I said ‘we can’t afford to lose you for the two home games – be available and don’t do anything stupid’.

“And he does something stupid. He’ll have to suffer the consequences.”

Carver was even angrier about the penalty conceded by United with just 28 seconds on the clock.

Vurnon Anita tripped Edin Dzeko in the penalty area after losing the ball through a poor touch from a Mike Williamson pass.

Sergio Aguero converted the spot kick – and City never looked back.

“I cannot repeat what I was thinking on record,” said Carver.

“There wasn’t anything that we didn’t expect. We expected them to put us under pressure from the kick-off.

“If we had got kick-off we would have done exactly the same, put the ball in their half and try to put them under pressure, but they got it, the ball gets put into our half and we just didn’t deal with it.

“Mike Willliamson had a chance to stick the ball back into their half and he didn’t.

“He tried to play a little ball into midfield. Vurn turns back on himself and it’s a penalty – 1-0 away at Manchester City, you’re in big trouble.”
