Callum Roberts was on target for Newcastle United's Under-21s as Sylvain Marveaux stepped up his bid for a first-team recall.
Roberts netted in last night's 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers at Leigh Sports Village.
Kevin Mbabu, Freddie Woodman and Jamie Sterry were also in Peter Beardsley's side for the Under-21 Premier League fixture.
Blackburn took an 18th-minute lead through Lewis Mansell, and the home side doubled their advantage 18 minutes from time when Callum Williams put the ball into his own net.
Roberts netted for Newcastle in the dying minutes.
Marveaux – who spent last season on loan at French club Guingamp – played 75 minutes.
The midfielder is yet to feature under Steve McClaren.
Defender Mbabu, meanwhile, continued his comeback from injury with a 45-minute run-out.
NEWCASTLE UNITED: Woodman, Sterry, Laidler, Hunter, Mbabu (Williams, 46), Satka, Gallacher, Barlaser, McNall (Roberts, 53), Marveaux (Longstaff, 75), L Smith.
