'That will put the scouts off!' - Newcastle United fans joke of hidden transfer message behind Martin Dubravka's howler

Newcastle United fans saw the lighter side of Martin Dubravka’s howler during Slovakia’s 5-0 loss to Spain at Euro 2020.

The Magpies goalkeeper went from hero to zero after his penalty save was swiftly overshadowed by his astonishing own goal – punching Pablo Sarabia’s rebounded shot into his own net as it came down off the crossbar.

Luis Enrique’s Spain sent Dubravka and co crashing out the tournament – and Newcastle fans were quick to react to the 32-year-old’s error on social media.

Many joked there was a hidden transfer message behind Dubravka’s moment of madness:

@goingnowhere82: Dubravka is just making sure #NUFC won’t sell him this summer. It’s all good….

@Penaluna: The best goalkeeper we’ve had since the legendary Shay Given left. Looking forward to hopefully seeing him at St James’ Park for many years to come.

@newyorkmagpie: At least nobody will be coming in for Dubravka lads. He’s ours next season! #nufc

@mithun_toon: That Dubravka goal will put them scouts off! He’s ours #nufc

@Gazlar28: That’s it Dubravka, get it all out of your system now, in time for the new season #NUFC

@jonniegrieve: I’m afraid since the penalty save, Dubravka has had a mare. That error for the own goal destroyed his composure. He’s still a top keeper and the best we have. #nufc #EURO2020

@wasimebrahim: Love the commitment to #nufc from Dubravka. Makes a quality penalty save and then concedes the own goal so no top clubs would come in for him. See you at St James Martin!

@mc_chug: 1 game doesn’t define Dubravka he’s a class keeper and will remain a class keeper #NUFC #EURO2020 #slospa #Slovakia
