Only last month did it seem Steve Bruce’s side were certain to drop into the relegation zone following a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion.
However, since then, the Magpies have collected seven points from a possible nine with a draw against Tottenham Hotspur and wins over Burnley and West Ham United.
Fulham’s upturn in form also proved to be short-lived with United opening up a vital eight-point advantage on the relegation places.
The big question is, will Newcastle now go on to retain their top-flight status?
Here, the bookmakers have released their latest batch of relegation odds – offering their verdict on West Brom, Fulham, Brighton, Burnley, Southampton and Crystal Palace’s chances of beating the drop:
5. Burnley - 6/1
Now occupying 17th, Burnley have lost their last three games - including just one win in nine. Remaining fixtures: Wolves (A), West Ham (H), Fulham (H), Leeds (H), Liverpool (H), Sheffield United (A).

7. West Bromwich Albion - 1/66
