Tim Krul and Karl Darlow been left out of Newcastle United's squad for tonight's game at Tynecastle.

Rafa Benitez has named Rob Elliot in goal for the friendly against Heart of Midlothian (7.45pm kick-off), while Freddie Woodman is on the bench.

Benitez is determined to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

And the Newcastle futures of Krul and Darlow, the subject of a failed £5million bid from Middlesbrough, are in doubt.

Krul hasn't played a game for the club since October 2015, when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament playing for Holland.

The goalkeeper spent last season on loan at AZ Alkmaar and Ajax.

Krul reported back for pre-season training last Monday hoping to impress United manager Rafa Benitez.

The 29-year-old – who has made 160 league appearances for the club he joined 11 years ago as a teenager – has a year left on his St James's Park contract.

Darlow, meanwhile, was outstanding for Newcastle in the Championship last season.

However, United are prepared to sell the 26-year this summer, and Middlesbrough could return with an improved bid.
