SOUTH Tynesider Remie Streete’s had a successful operation on his injured ankle – but the Newcastle United defender still faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The 17-year-old – who suffered the injury in a reserve derby against Sunderland earlier this month – went under the knife in London yesterday.
And highly-rated Streete went on social networking site Twitter to declare the operation to reattach snapped ankle tendons a success.
Streete thanks the club for getting him the “best available treatment”, as well as supporters who had sent messages of good luck.
The centre-half, from South Shields, turned professional on his birthday earlier this season, and his performances for the reserves have impressed manager Alan Pardew.
Pardew had involved Streete in first-team training sessions before his season was ended by injury.
