Virgin Trains have had a cheeky dig at reported Tottenham Hotspur target Cheick Tiote.
Reports this afternoon suggest Spurs have enquired about the availability of the Newcastle United midfielder, who is not renowned for his pace.
It led Virgin Trains EC to tweet this message from their @Virgin_TrainsEC account: “#COYS want Cheick Tiote, he’ll have to move quicker than he has for #nufc in the past 6 months to make our 14:25 service to KX #DeadlineDay”
Tiote is no longer an automatic starter for the club he joined five years ago and his future on Tyneside is seemingly in the balance.
Tiote has been named as a substitute for the first four Premier League games of the season by new head coach Steve McClaren, who previously worked with the 29-year-old during their time together at FC Twente.
The Evening Standard report that Tottenham have made an enquiry.
Although it is understood the club’s No 1 target is Zenit St Petersburg’s Axel Witsel.
