Newcastle United’s players today had their final training session ahead of their pre-season opener at Gateshead.
Steve McClaren and his new backroom team put the squad through their paces at the club’s Benton HQ in readiness for tomorrow night’s friendly at the International Stadium.
The players did a series of strength and conditioning exercises before they moved the the practice pitch.
There were no new faces – the club is yet to make a signing this summer – but PSV Eindhoven’s Georginio Wijnaldum could soon join Newcastle, who have bid £11.5million for the midfielder.
McClaren will take his squad across the Atlantic on Sunday for a three-game tour of the USA.
And the club is hopeful of a breakthrough before the players and staff leave Tyneside.
