Ex-England and Newcastle stiker Michael Owen has predicted a top-half finish for his old club with Steve McClaren in charge.
Speaking to Sportlobster’s official YouTube channel, the former Real Madrid striker says a combination of Mike Ashley loosening the purse-strings and his former England boss Steve McClaren at the helm will ensure a good season for Newcastle.
Owen, who joined Newcastle in 2005, said: “I’m going to go for Newcastle, my old club.
“One of the main reasons is Steve McClaren. He is one of the best coaches I have ever worked with and he has interestingly gone back into the divisions where he used to manage to recruit some of the players for Newcastle this year.
“Mike Ashley splashed the cash for the first time in a long time and I think, in the appointment of Steve McClaren, he has made a real masterstroke there. I think they are going to perform well, I think they’re going to get into the top half.
“I think Newcastle are going to have a good season with Steve McClaren at the helm.”
