Watford are targeting a loan swoop for Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff ahead of the 11pm Monday deadline, it is reported.

It could prove a busy final 48-hours for Newcastle in the transfer market, with a number of possible ins and outs ahead of the deadline.

And reports down south suggest Watford are targeting a move for Longstaff, they have previously been credited with a strong interest in the midfielder.

It is an area Newcastle are also aiming to strengthen ahead of the 11pm deadline.

The Watford Observer report: “The Hornets have rekindled their interest in the 20-year-old, who they considered making a move for last summer before the player signed a new deal on Tyneside.

“While Newcastle are open to the possibility of Longstaff heading out temporarily, it is understood they first want to bring in one, or possibly even two, of their own loan targets before they continue any discussions.”
