Mehdi Abeid’s footballing ability itsn’t in question – but he must persuade John Carver that he’s got the judgement to back it up.
Abeid’s recent omission from Carver’s Newcastle United starting XIs has baffled some fans.
Head coach Carver – whose side need to beat West Ham United on Sunday ot be certain of Premier League survival – has fielded Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez out of position in central midfield, Abeid’s natural position.
Abeid – who impressed on loan at Panathinaikos last season – hasn’t started a game for more than a month, and he could find himself on the bench again for the West Ham game.
Carver, it seems, has reservations about Abeid’s decision-making, with the 22-year-old having given away a free-kick in a dangerous area seconds after coming off the bench late in the club’s 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion earlier this month.
