Hogg was appointed by the Magpies earlier this month, after joining the club from Ipswich Town, but has already been impressed with what he’s seen.

Second-half goals from Elliot Anderson and Tom Allan secured a 2-0 win over Boro, as Newcastle recorded their fourth straight win in Premier League 2, Division 2.

“I think it became a game where you can control it after scoring the goals but I’m really pleased for the boys,” said Hogg after the match.

“Since I’ve been in, the work ethic and the attitude towards myself, Ben (Dawson) and the coaching staff, they’ve been excellent they really have.”

“When you are on top in the game or you have moments in a game when you are on top you have to take them. The higher you go up the levels that becomes even more important.

“At half time I just reiterated the good things, some of the areas we would like to tweak and improve a little bit but once they got the goals that builds confidence.

“I thought once we got the second goal we had some good passages of play and controlled the ball which was really pleasing.”

The young Magpies have now kept four consecutive clean sheets in the league - something which Hogg is keen to build on.

“It’s a collective thing really and something that’s been a focus since I’ve been here definitely but also before that,” Hogg added

“You can see that with the group and the things we have been doing in training, and it’s trying to have a clean sheet as a starting point but also trying to be positive which is vital to keep the heat off the defence.

“I thought we did that really well tonight, they had a couple of chances but obviously every team is going to have moments in a game but they rode that out well.

“Jake Turner made a good save at 0-0 and that’s important at this level, again just really happy with their enthusiasm and their attitude once we did get the goals.”
