The Arsenal midfielder completed his move to St James’s Park late on deadline day, with the deal announced just prior to the 11pm deadline.

When is he likely to make his debut?

Newcastle host Crystal Palace tonight but Willock won’t be involved, with his debut likely to come against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

There is a noon deadline on the day prior to a game for players to be registered to play, with Willock’s deal not confirmed until late on Monday night. The midfielder is also yet to train with the team.

Arsenal have sent him out on loan to gain regular first team experience, and when the deal was announced Arsenal stated it was ‘subject to the completion of regulatory processes.’

The 21-year old, who signed as a full-time scholar in 2015, has made 77 first-team appearances since making his Arsenal debut in the League Cup in September 2017.

What has Steve Bruce had to say?

Bruce said: “He’s a very exciting and talented young player who can get up and down the pitch and can score a goal from midfield.

“He has made a very decent impact at Arsenal after coming through the ranks, and to make nearly 80 appearances for the club by the age of 21 says much about his development, ability and character."

What have Arsenal said?

Technical director Edu said: “Joe is a talented young player and an important member of our first-team squad. This can be seen in the number of appearances he has made for us in recent seasons.

"At this stage of his career, we have decided together with Joe, that it will benefit his development greatly to enjoy a loan period playing regular first-team football.
