This is why ADO Den Haag fans invaded ex-Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew's training session - just six games in

Supporters of ADO Den Haag have shown their discontent towards former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew - just six games into his managerial reign.

Pardew, 58, was appointed manager at the Dutch club in December in a bid to help stave off relegation from the Eredivisie.

However, it has not exactly gone to plan for Pardew, who previously signed an eight-year deal with the Magpies before leaving for Crystal Palace in 2015.

He has won just once - collecting five points from a possible 18 - which leaves Den Haag six points adrift at the bottom of the table with 10 matches remaining.

Fans have been left unimpressed by Pardew’s tactics and around a dozen of them invaded the club’s training ground on Wednesday morning.

They were pictured speaking to players in front of a chalkboard with Pardew and assistant manager Chris Powell watching on.

Den Haag insisted the protest was calm. A Den Haag spokesperson said: "It was about a group of approximately 10 worried fans.

"They expressed, in a calm and non-hostile way, their concerns to the staff and players at the start of training."

It was only last month that Pardew and Powell were being hailed as the saviours of Den Haag, with a spectacular fan display.

The duo were displayed on a flag in tribute to the 1984 classic Ghostbusters movie ahead of their first game with RKC Waalwijk – which they won 2-0.

Den Haag collected just 13 points from their opening 18 matches this campaign and were already in relegation trouble when Pardew arrived.

*Newcastle United’s players have been banned from shaking hands – over coronavirus fears.

The club is taking steps to guard against the spread of the virus.

Speaking ahead of today’s home game against Burnley, head coach Steve Bruce said: “There’s a ritual, everyone shakes hands.

“We’ve stopped that on the advice of the doctor. Let’s hope it doesn’t get any worse in this country.”

A number of sporting events have already been affected by the viral outbreak.
