Newcastle United have been warned that Bas Dost won’t leave Wolfsburg on the cheap.
The 26-year-old striker is one of the club’s top summer targets.
But Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs says Newcastle will have to make a huge offer to persuade the club to part with the Holland international, who he claims is settled at the Volkswagen Arena.
Allofs says the club should use the £29milion fee that Liverpool paid Hoffenheim for Roberto Firmino as a yardstick.
“I read lump sum payments from 10million Euros (£7.1million) to 12million Euros (£8.5million) for Bas,” said Allofs.
“But then I refer to Roberto Firmino’s example, and say they (Newcastle and Dost’s other suitors) will have to get used to higher amounts if any club really wants to buy Dost.
“We spoke to his agent for the first time over the last week, and it has not turned out that Bas wants to leave. He feels very well in Wolfsburg.”
