Kevin Mbabu won't be back to help injury-hit Newcastle United at the St Mary's Stadium.
The defender hasn't played for the relegation-threatened club since January.
Mbabu – who had a memorable Premier League debut against Chelsea last September – made five appearances earlier this season.
And the 20-year-old would offer new United manager Rafa Benitez a welcome option at left-back with Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara unavailable through injury and midfielder Jack Colback suspended.
But Mbabu, recovering from a thigh injury, is yet to rejoin full training and won't be in Benitez's squad for tomorrow's game against Southampton.
Dummett, meanwhile, is close to a return, but he isn't expected to be ready in time to face Ronald Koeman's side.
Captain Fabricio Coloccini – who has been sidelined since February with a calf problem – is also back in training.
