Young Magpies knocked out of Youth Cup by AFC Wimbledon


Newcastle United were dumped out of the FA Youth Cup by AFC Wimbledon tonight.

United’s Under-18s were beaten 2-1 at St James’s Park, where Alfie Egan headed home a late winner for the League Two club.

Egan had given the Dons a first-half lead.

Lewis McNall levelled for Dave Watson’s Magpies after the break, but Egan netted the visitors’ winner three minutes from time.

Newcastle last won the competition in 1985 when Paul Gascoigne was coming up through the ranks at St James’s Park.
