Hebburn Town boss Scott Oliver has told his players their honeymoon is over this season – after they spoiled his.

Oliver missed his side’s crushing defeat at the hands of Easington last Saturday as he was getting married.

And he responded by pulling his players into a double training session this week.

He said: “I missed last Saturday’s defeat as I got married but I didn’t see that performance coming. I thought we’d turned the corner.

“We have trained twice this week and the players are well aware that we won’t accept such a performance or result.

“But the players are good enough. Only Ally Downey is now missing from last season’s squad.

“We hope to get the green light for Ally soon as gets his final scan results in the next few days, and he’s trained with us this week.”

After going so close to promotion last season, Hebburn are languishing in 14th spot ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Tow Law (3pm).

Oliver, who is without Chris Locke and Alan Pegram, while Marc Costello is a doubt, added: “We need to win five of the next six games now.”
