Manager Jon King paid tribute to those behind the scenes after South Shields sealed promotion last night.
Before Geoff Thompson took over as chairman last summer and returned the club to Mariners Park after a two-year exile in Peterlee, Shields had faced a real battle to survive.
However, they can now look forward to life in the First Division of the Northern League after winning 1-0 at Easington Colliery.
King said: “I’m delighted for the lads, who deserve promotion after a great season, and everyone behind the scenes at the club.
“During the time in Peterlee, a lot of volunteers kept the club alive, and now Geoff Thompson has come in and done incredibly in a short space of time.
“There’s a real buzz, the fans are tremendous and hopefully this is just the start.”
