Jarrow Roofing head into tomorrow’s Northern League Division One clash with Durham City looking to put a 5-1 defeat at Seaham Red Star behind them, but buoyed by two new signings over the festive period.
Richie McLoughlin has added Steven Turnbull and Richard Paxton to his squad but believes it will take more than just new faces to get a result when the Citizens travel to South Tyneside.
He’s still fuming at the manner of the defeat against Red Star but is confident his side can put that behind them.
“The Seaham game was stupid but we must look at it to learn from our mistakes,” said McLoughlin.
“At the moment, we’re seeing ourselves out of games before they’ve even begun because we have the wrong mindset.
“We’ve got to be stronger and have a more physical defence. I believe the lads can do it.”
Durham City, owned by former Newcastle United man Olivier Bernard, currently sit two places above the Roofers but have played five games more and after recent upheaval and loss of players – including James Fairley to Roofing – then the home side could fancy their chances.
New man Turnbull is hoping to hit the ground running against one of his old clubs.
He said: “I was actually at Durham before Bernard took over and I know a few of the lads there so it’s a good game to kick-off with.”
McLoughlin expects both new men to feature but there will be competition for places with the Roofing supremo expecting an almost full squad bar the injuredAnth Myers.
