South Shields have completed a transfer swoop on South Tyneside neighbours Jarrow Roofing by sealing the signing of Danny Carson.
The centre-back, who can also play in midfield, could be in contention to make his Shields debut in Saturday’s game against Alnwick Town at Mariners Park.
The 26-year-old has spent much of his senior career so far at Roofing, but has opted to join the Mariners after negotiations with manager Jon King.
Carson said: “South Shields has always been a big club, and there are exciting times here now. It was tough to leave Jarrow Roofing, as I had been there for a long time.
“I had to weigh up my options, and I decided that this was my best one. Jon has given me a fantastic opportunity to come to a club with lots of ambition, and it’s a challenge I’m very excited about.”
Carson has been to watch Shields at Mariners Park this season, and was impressed with what he saw.
He added: “I’ve been impressed from afar with what has been going on at the club.
“I’ve been to a couple of games this season, and couldn’t not be impressed.
“The team has been doing a great job on the pitch and the gates Shields have been getting have been amazing. I’m really looking forward to playing at Mariners Park.”
Manager King added: “Danny is a fantastic signing for us. He’s a proven player in the First Division and still has his best years ahead of him.
“He’s from South Tyneside as well, so he’s another player who ticks all the boxes for us. I’ve always tried to get the best local talent in, and he’s certainly one of those.”
