SIEM de Jong has taken another big stride towards a comeback THIS season.
The Newcastle United forward has taken part in his first full-scale training session along with Rolando Aarons.
But neither player will be fit for Monday night’s game against Liverpool.
The Gazette revealed yesterday that winger Aarons, sidelined for five months with hamstring and thigh problems, was unlikely to feature at Anfield.
Aarons, 19, could now make his comeback against Tottenham Hotspur on April 19.
De Jong – who suffered a collapsed lung in February – is slightly behind Aarons, according to head coach John Carver.
“Rolando and Siem joined in with us 11 versus 11,” said Carver. “They’re back in the group.
“Rolando’s ahead of Siem, but he won’t be available for Liverpool.”
Captain Fabricio Coloccini still has one game of his three-match ban for his dismissal at Everton to serve.
