RANGERS goalkeeper Steve Simonsen has been handed a two-match ban after breaching the Scottish FA’s gambling rules.
Simonsen, from South Shields, was found guilty of the breach after a hearing before an independent panel.
The 35-year-old will serve an immediate one-match ban, with one game suspended until the end of the season.
He was accused of betting on 55 football matches – 37 this season and 18 last term.
The SFA can appeal against the judgement, as can Rangers, but the club have indicated they will not appeal.
Simonsen will therefore be suspended for Rangers’ vital Championship game against Hibernian tomorrow.
