Steve McClaren blasted 13 minutes of madness at the Etihad Stadium after Newcastle United were beaten 6-1 by Manchester City.
McClaren’s side took the lead through Aleksandar Mitrovic in the 18th minute.
But Sergio Aguero equalised before the break, and he went on to net four more times in the second half.
Kevin De Bruyne also scored for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who now lead the Premier League.
Five of those goals came in a 13-minute period.
“We came here to win,” said head coach McClaren, whose side now prop up the league.
“We set up in 4-4-2 – very attack-minded – and created opportunities and scored the first goal.
“The second was never offside. We had chances for a third one, but the goal just before half time kind of woke them up.
“It was a whirlwind 13 minutes. We lost the game in that 13 minutes.”
