Yoan Gouffran’s been put on standby for Newcastle United’s visit to the Eithad Stadium.

The forward hasn’t made a Premier League appearance for far this season, but head coach Steve McClaren is considering handing Gouffran a start against Manchester City.

We’ll have to shuffle them. The decision is whether to start Ayoze on the left-hand side and play a 4-5-1 away from home.

Midfielder Jack Colback will miss out with the hamstring injury the suffered against Chelsea last weekend.

And Gouffran and fit-again Cheick Tiote are vying to replace Colback in McClaren’s starting XI.

“If Jack doesn’t make it, we can put Gini (Georginio Wijnaldum) inside, and Gouffran’s played central midfield before,” said McClaren.

“Gouffran’s also played also on the left-hand side before, and (Gabriel) Obertan’s out with a hamstring.

“We’ll have to shuffle them. The decision is whether to start Ayoze (Perez) on the left-hand side and play a 4-5-1 away from home.”
