First Sunderland goals for summer signings Yann M’Vila and Jeremain Lens saw the Black Cats come away with a point at Villa Park today.

But Dick Advocaat’s side now head into the international break still without a Premier League win to their names this season.

But Advocaat wasn’t unhappy with a 2-2 draw after Villa were in the ascendancy for long spells.

He said: “I’m pleased with the point. It was a very hard-working performance.

“Some moments of the game were okay, but the majority of the match, Aston Villa were the better team.

“We started well in the first half, scored the goal and then gave a very easy goal away.

“In the first 20 minutes of the second half, we did okay and got it to 2-2.

“Aston Villa then took over again, and they were playing at home, and we had some problems with the movement of their wingers.

“I tried to explain that to the players at half-time.

“But in this system we play, everyone has to work, otherwise it’s too difficult for the striker up front.”
