Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has warned Sunderland they can't keep flirting with relegation and expect to get away with it.

The Black Cats are rock-bottom of the Premier League after their 2-0 defeat at Stoke City on Saturday left them without a league win this season.

Match of the Day pundit Shearer believes the team’s current problems stem from new boss David Moyes bringing in enough players in the transfer window.

And he says the club - which has narrowly managed to beat the drop in the last few seasons - are in 'serious trouble'.

“I get the feeling David Moyes didn’t sign as many players as he wanted to sign,” said Shearer.

“They can’t keep flirting with relegation like they have year-in, year-out and expect to get away with it.

“Not signing the players that needed to be signed, they’re in serious trouble.”
