Bristol Live claim the centre-back was due to head to the North East this week to complete a medical before the move was delayed following an injury to one of his Bristol City teammates.

His January switch remains on the cards but has been delayed, with the Australian reportedly set to seal a permanent move to Wearside for a nominal fee.

Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has already confirmed he is not expecting any ins or outs before the clash with MK Dons on Saturday.

Parkinson has not confirmed any names but says he hopes to add a second signing on Monday.

The Sunderland boss had hoped to make his next addition on Wednesday but the move was delayed.

Parkinson has added Kyle Lafferty to his current squad and also confirmed that he has held talks over a potential deal for midfielder Greg Docherty.
