Sunderland produced a brilliant team performance to beat Crystal Palace 1-0, but who were the best individuals? Here’s our player ratings.
Costel Pantilimon: Comfortable first half and made one diving save second. Great save late on to deny Cabaye 7
Billy Jones: Worked really hard down the right-hand side for Sunderland. Didn’t pose much of a threat at wing-back but did his job defensively 7
Younes Kaboul: Grew into the game after a quiet start. Made some key interventions. Sunderland’s best defender and a key reason behind the win 8
Sebastian Coates: Similar to Kaboul. Had a header cleared off the line by Cabaye early on in the second half 8
John O’Shea: Back in the side and made several key blocks. Won his fair share of headers too to deny Palace forwards 8
Patrick van Aanholt: Shot wide early on. Should have done better from a good opening. Got forward more than Jones, more positive evening for him 7
Lee Cattermole: Back in the side and marshalled the midfield well. Gave his all, covered a lot of ground. Few too many misplaced passes though 7
Seb Larsson: Workmanlike shift on his return to the side, a few misplaced passes first half. Looked far from happy coming off 6
Yann M’Vila: Involved in everything. Like Cattermole, covered acres of ground 7
Jermain Defoe: Feeding on scraps first half but kept plugging away. Got his rewards with 80th minute winner 7
Steven Fletcher: Put a shift in up front alongside Defoe. The pair were starved of any decent quality into them though 6
Duncan Watmore (Larsson, 60): Raw but really lively. Scared the Palace defence with his pace. Made a big impact. 7
Jeremain Lens (Fletcher, 60): Had a shot on goal, which almost sneaked in. Injected some pace 6
Danny Graham (Defoe, 86): Brought on to hold the ball up. Helped defensively too 6
