DICK Advocaat has emerged as the surprise front-runner to replace Gus Poyet at Sunderland, according to the latest Ladbrokes odds.

The bookmaker has the Dutchman as the 11/10 favourite to take over at the Stadium of Light, following the Uruguayan’s dismissal.

Steve McClaren is a controversial second in the betting at 7/1, having previously managed rivals Middlesbrough, while former Black Cats player Sam Allardyce is 10/1.

Glenn Hoddle and Harry Redknapp can be backed at 12/1 each while ex-Sunderland managers Steve Bruce and Mick McCarthy are 14/1 respectively to make a shock return to Wearside.

Jack Beresford of Ladbrokes said: “With Dick Advocaat lasting less than a year in five of his last six managerial posts, the betting suggests Sunderland are seeking a short-term solution to stave off the drop.”
