And the 28-year-old has once against been linked with the Stadium of Light after it emerged that Phil Parkinson was targeting an unnamed Championship striker.

Winnall has been in and out of the Owls’ side in recent weeks – and admits his future at Hillsborough is ‘out of his control’ with his contract set to expire in the summer.

The striker seemed to shoot down the idea of a temporary exit in January, but didn’t rule out a move of some description once the winter window opens.

When quizzed on his future at Wednesday, Winnall told the Sheffield Star: “It depends on if I've got the option. That's out of my control.

“Like I say, I don’t want to look too far into the future, I want to concentrate on getting myself into the team. That's the most important thing at this time.

“I've got six months left on my contract so a loan move is irrelevant. That's out of the question. I don't know, whatever happens in January happens.”

Phil Parkinson is keen to add ‘pace and power’ to his frontline in January, and has identified Bristol City youngster Antoine Semenyo as a potential target.
