Former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is the new favourite with one bookmaker to be Sunderland’s new boss.
Pearson has been backed from 6/1 to 2/1 to be the next manager of Sunderland at BetVictor with former Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce out to 9/4.
This is the first time since Dick Advocaat resigned on Sunday that Allardyce has not been market leader for the vacant Black Cats’ post. Former US coach Bob Bradley has halved in price (3s from 6s) but did touch Even money in what is a volatile market.
Spokesman Charlie McCann said: “We were never convinced that former Magpies’ boss Allardyce was the man for Ellis Short and Nigel Pearson is our new favourite for the vacancy at the Stadium Of Light.
“With the Black Cats 1/5 to be playing Championship football next term and a shade of odds on (5/6) to finish bottom of the Premier League the post looks something of a poisoned chalice but there were nearly 43,000 at the Stadium Of Light last weekend and their next home game is the small matter of the Tyne-Wear Derby.
“They are likely to introduce their new manager to the Sunderland faithful ahead of the game against the Magpies and we think there are likely to be more twists and turns in the market before an appointment is made.”
