SUNDERLAND reporter Chris Young gives his verdict after the Black Cats’ abysmal collapse against Crystal Palace.

Pantilimon 5 - Couldn’t readjust to the deflected cross for Palace’s opener, while his scrambling efforts to deny Yannick Bolasie his hat-trick came to nought.

Jones 5 - Struggled against Puncheon in the first half and needed Vergini to come to his rescue on several occasions, as Sunderland scraped through to the interval.

O’Shea 3 - For the second time in three home games, endured a wretched afternoon, where his lack of pace was exposed. At fault for the third and fourth goals and fortunate to escape with other mistakes.

Vergini 4 - Excellent in the first half, awful in the second. Caught out by Murray’s flick-on for Bolasie’s opening goal.

Van Aanholt 6 - Handled Zaha pretty well, who was the quietest of Palace’s dangermen. Almost grabbed a second consolation in stoppage time.

Cattermole 5 - Began the match positively, but got sucked into sitting too deep and got frustrated after first half yellow card. Taken off for his own good. (Bridcutt 6 - Made one superb tackle on Zaha in the penalty area when Palace threatened a fifth).

Rodwell 4 - Very fortunate to escape an early red card and failed to take Larsson’s baton in pressing Palace.

Gomez 5 - Was bright in the first half, bringing the ball forward and putting a foot in, but faded in the second half collapse. (Johnson 6 - One of few who looked eager to claw back some self-respect in the second half).

WICKHAM 6 - Sunderland’s most threatening player in the opening 45 minutes by some distance and grabbed a consolation at the death.

Defoe 5 - Worked hard, but no service.

Fletcher 5 - Ditto to Defoe. What’s the point of playing two poachers if neither is given a sniff?

PALACE: Speroni 6, Ward 7, Dann 7, Delaney 7, Soare 6 (Kelly 6), Jedinak 6, McArthur 7(Ledley 6), Puncheon 8, Zaha 7, Bolasie 9 (Sanogo 6), Murray 8
