Sunderland star set for scan on injury – and looks set to miss Swansea clash

SCAN ... Wickham.

CONNOR Wickham will undergo a scan on his calf today after withdrawing at the last minute from Sunderland’s FA Cup triumph at Fulham.

Wickham sustained an injury during the warm-up before last night’s fourth round replay at Fulham and was forced to pull out, with Steven Fletcher taking the place of the 21-year-old in the starting line-up.

The £8m frontman will be assessed today, but is already a major doubt for this weekend’s trip to Swansea.

However, Jack Rodwell – who suffered a minor injury during a training session yesterday morning – should be fit for the clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Head coach Gus Poyet said: “Connor got injured in the warm-up with a calf. He’ll have a scan today.”

However, the withdrawal of Wickham didn’t faze Sunderland, as they utterly dominated proceedings – both before and after Fulham took the lead against the run of play during the first half, with the Black Cats getting a deserved win in the end.

Poyet added: “I don’t think I’ve said it once this year, but I really enjoyed watching the team.”
