FORMER Sunderland winger James McClean has been linked with a £4million summer move to rivals Newcastle United.

The Daily Star reports that McClean is one of the Magpies’ principal targets at the end of the season, with current employers Wigan on the verge of relegation from the Championship.

McClean left Sunderland in the summer of 2013 for just £1million after the club were keen to ship out the Republic of Ireland international, who had signed a lucrative new contract under Martin O’Neill’s stewardship.

The 25-year-old has made 85 appearances for Wigan since then, but the Latics are currently five points adrift of safety in the Championship.
