Yann M’Vila could make his Sunderland debut against Norwich this weekend despite a red card for a headbutt in a reserve game.
Club officials have confirmed the Frenchman - who was red carded for the Under21s on Sunday - is available for selection in the first home Premier League game of the season.
A club statement said: “M’Vila made a loan move to the Stadium of Light last week and will be in contention to make his senior bow against the Canaries.
“The midfielder received a red card whilst playing for the under-21 side on Sunday, however, any sanction applies to the U21 competition only.”
Midway through the second half of his run-out for the Under-21s at Eppleton CW, the French international needlessly got himself involved in a flashpoint and lived up to his billing with a head-butt on Norwich striker Jamar Loza that saw an inevitable red card.
But he could now make his first team debut at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
