TEENAGER Callum Roberts has signed a professional deal at Newcastle United.
The 17-year-old has committed his long-term future to his boyhood club after breaking through at St James’s Park.
Roberts, on a month-long loan at Gateshead, made his first-team debut in the FA Cup defeat to Leicester City earlier this month.
The Gazette revealed earlier this month that Roberts had been offered a deal.
And North Shields-born player is understood to have signed a three-and-a-half year contract.
Reserve-team coach Peter Beardsley feels Roberts has the “ability” to go a long way into the game.
In a recent interview with the club’s matchday programme, Beardsley said: “Quite simply, his ability makes him stand out.
“He loves a dribble, and is quite old-fashioned in that respect.
“You also look at players like Messi and Ronaldo, and they are both great dribblers, and Callum is off that ilk.”
