NEWCASTLE United's Jarrow-born striker Carl Finnigan has joined Falkirk - as Sunderland forward Anthony Stokes's replacement.

The 19-year-old signed an 18 month deal with the Scottish Premier League club last night, and goes into John "Yogi" Hughes's squad for Saturday's home game against Kilmarnock.

Finnigan - United's top scorer in the Premiership Reserve League this season with five goals - also faces a CIS Cup semi-final against Kilmarnock next Tuesday.

And he joins the Bairns as Stokes's replacement, with the prolific striker - who had been on loan from Arsenal - having signed for Sunderland in a permanent deal earlier this month.

Former St Joseph's Comprehensive School pupil Finnigan - who never made a first team appearance for Newcastle - had started out at Jarrow FC Boys Club.

Also in Hughes's Falkirk squad is Denmark Under-21 goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, son of Manchester United legend Peter.
