Newcastle United's beleaguered head coach has presided over a disastrous campaign.

And there have been more calls for him to be dismissed since the club, Europe's biggest spenders in January's transfer window, suffered a demoralising sixth successive away defeat in the league in midweek.

McClaren told journalists he expected to stay in charge after the 1-0 loss to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Gazette reported last month that the 54-year-old's job was on the line, and United managing director Lee Charnley knows time is running out to make a managerial change.

Newcastle take on Bournemouth at St James's Park tomorrow.

And a defeat could spell the end of McClaren's nine-month tenure at the club.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail today claimed that McClaren and his staff were "losing the trust of their squad".
