Mike Ashley's warning to Newcastle: There is NO money left!

The billionaire has given rare interviews to The Mirror and Sky, the club's "media partners".

And Ashley has warned that the club's coffers are almost empty after a huge outlay on the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Andros Townsend and Jonjo Shelvey in the last two transfer windows.

Asked by The Mirror who much was left in the bank account, Ashley said: "Virtually nothing now. They have emptied it."

Second-bottom Newcastle, however, are deep in relegation troubled despite that massive spend.

The club has gambled on staying up and collecting a share of the Premier League's huge new TV deal.

Should the club stay up, the coffers would quickly be replenished with broadcast revenues,.

Ashley also said he "regretted" buying Newcastle in 2007.

“Do I regret getting into football? The answer is yes," he said.

“I have had tonnes of fun in it but I haven’t been able to make the difference I wanted to in football like I have at Sports Direct.

“I wanted to help Newcastle, I wanted to make it better, that’s what I wanted to do. I haven’t seemed to have had that affect.

“Let’s hope Rafa (Benitez) can do the business and keep us up there.”

Ashley insisted he would NOT sell the club in the event of a catastrophic relegation to the Championship.

“I have no choice," said Ashley. "They’ve got me, and I’ve got them. That is the way it is.”
