Paul Dummett is facing up to a month on the sidelines at crisis-hit Newcastle United.

The defender limped out of last weekend’s 3-1 home defeat to Bournemouth with a hamstring problem.

And Dummett is facing a number of weeks out at a crucial phase of the relegation-threatened club’s campaign.

The 24-year-old had only just returned from a previous hamstring problem.

Dummett – who had been out for a month – played 90 minutes of the club’s 1-0 defeat to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium last week.

However, the Wales international lasted just 31 minutes against Bournemouth three days later.

Dummett’s injury is compounded by the ongoing absence of Massadio Haidara, his fellow left-back, with a knee injury. Haidara – who had surgery late last year – could be back later this month.

But Newcastle will now be without Dummett and Haidara for Monday night’s game against league leaders Leicester City and the April 20 Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland at St James’s Park.

Jack Colback, Rolando Aarons and Kevin Mbabu have also been fielded at left-back this season.

Dummett must now recover in time to help United stay in the Premier League.

Beyond that, he hopes to go with Wales to Euro 2016.

Dummett’s hamstring problems date back to late last season when he played with an injury in a bid to help the club in its relegation battle.

Meanwhile, Newcastle take on West Ham United in an Under-21 Premier League game at St James’s Park tomorrow night (7pm kick-off).
