While Paul Dummett, Vurnon Anita and Siem de Jong, who have all recently been ruled out by injury, travel, there are no places for strikers Papiss Cisse or Aleksandar Mitrovic.

So far, the club has not given any explanation for the absence of either player on the trip.

Cisse had declared himself fit this week and was expected to be a part of the travelling party on a trip Head Coach Steve McClaren had stressed the importance of in a bid to get his squad into shape.

But both he and Mitrovic have missed out, although the Serbian's girlfriend is due to give birth in March, which could possibly explain his omission.

McClaren's men will begin training on Wednesday and will also play a friendly against Norweigan side Lillestrom on Saturday.

January signings Andros Townsend, Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet and Seydou Doumbia are also all on the plane, and will no doubt feature in Saturday's friendly, with McClaren saying it was essential his players had a game in the 18 day gap they have between last Saturday's defeat at

Chelsea and their next game against Stoke on March 2.

The Head Coach also claimed the reason for the trip to Spain was that no other team in the UK were willing and able to play during their 18-day period without a fixture.
