Hebburn Town boss reacts to FA Vase semi-final draw with an all-Northern League final still a possibility

Hebburn Town will face a wait before they find out which club stands in the way of a first ever appearance at Wembley Stadium in the FA Vase Final.

The Hornets will face the winners of the outstanding quarter-final between Southern Counties East League club Corinthian and Spartan South Midland League side Leighton Town.

They will meet on Saturday at Corinthian’s Gay Dawn Farm home for the right to host Kevin Bolam’s side in the first leg of the semi-final on Saturday 21st March.

The second leg will take place at the Energy Check Sports Ground seven days later and the Hornets boss is hopeful his side can bring a positive result back to South Tyneside – no matter which side they will face.

He said: “We are pleased with it and we can give ourselves something to stay in the game with before getting back to the North East.

“We will see what happens on Saturday and then start our homework on the side that gets through.

“The buzz is still around the place from Saturday, and we are really looking forward to it already.

“But it’s put to the side for now because we have two huge league games ahead, so we are focusing on them.

“Once Saturday is out of the way we will work on finding out a little bit about our opponents.”

The draw almost means that there is still a possibility that Wembley could host it’s second all-Northern League Vase Final.

Consett will travel to Atherstone Town for a quarter-final tie this weekend knowing that a two-legged semi-final against Western League club Bitton will be the prize for the winners.

Bolam was pleased a first North East final since Dunston UTS’ 2-0 win against West Auckland Town in 2012 is still in the offing – but conceded a lot of football has to be played before that becomes a reality.

“I think in a perfect world we would like to play Consett at Wembley, rather than have one of us have to go out in the semi-final.

“Hopefully that can happen now, but there is a lot to happen and a lot of results have to be secured before that can happen.”
