Benitez, preparing for Sunday's game against Fulham at Craven Cottage, is keen to meet Ashley next week.

Asked for an update on his future, Benitez said: "It's exactly the same line. We will have a meeting, for sure, and then we will let you know, but still we have to concentrate on the last game.

"I will be around after the game. Maybe I will have a holiday later on. I don’t need too much time on holiday – one week will be enough."

Benitez said he "expected" to meet Ashley as well as Charnley.

The 59-year-old was also asked about on-loan Salomon Rondon's future after the striker won the club's player of the season award.

Rondon is keen to secure a permanent move from West Bromwich Albion.

“I can see what he's saying," said Benitez. "I talk with him every day. Everyone's really pleased.

"He played really well for us, and was a key player in our achievement. It's easy to say we have to sign him, but we have to see what happens with me. and he has to see what is happening with West Bromwich Albion.

"We have to wait – in 10 days we will see what is going on."
