Whiteleas’ unbeaten start to the season brought to an end

Whiteleas and Harton CC’s unbeaten start to the Readers Durham Cricket League Division One season came to an end after they went down by 54 runs to Easington.

Electing to bat first, the hosts put Leas to the sword as they reached 120 in just 21 overs before Abdul Ameer (3-51) made the breakthrough in his second spell.

Backed up by new signing Hafiz Aleem (2-28), the run rate dried up slightly before a declaration was made in the 46th over, with the score on 214 for seven wickets.

The home side accumulated their 214 thanks to 56 runs apiece from Jonathan Davies and Ryan Higgins, with Dane Wilson whacking 35 near the end.

Whiteleas’ reply got off to a poor start with the loss of three wickets for just 25 runs.

On a deteriorating wicket and some smart line and length bowling from the hosts, the visitors found it hard to build partnerships and gather much needed momentum at the top order.

However, a seventh wicket partnership between Dev Sudhir and Scott Oliver (28) gave Whiteleas some hope.

Sudhir, playing a fantastic innings, with an array of well-worked shots to all parts of the ground, took his side to 150 before he holed out for 82.

The remaining wickets were taken in quick succession as the innings was wrapped up in the 43rd over.

The victory for the home side sees they hit top spot with a lead of 17 points.

The second XI returned to winning ways at home to Easington.

Bowling the visitors out for 123, thanks to Nathan Ullah 4/28 and Sid Corner Jnr 3/23.

Despite losing seven wickets, Whiteleas reaches their target after 33 overs.
