Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant set to play North East date as part of summer festival

Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has been confirmed as the latest artist to join the Mouth of the Tyne Festival line-up.

The rock legend will bring his latest collaboration to Playhouse Whitley Bay as part of the coastal festival, organised by North Tyneside Council.

‘Saving Grace’ sees Plant perform alongside vocalist Suzi Dian and a cast of multi-talented musicians for an intimate show with blues, roots and folk on Wednesday, July 8.

The set-up, whose sound has been compared as being anything ‘from a whisper to a scream’, includes Oli Jefferson on percussion, Tony Kelsey on mandolin, baritone and acoustic guitars and Matt Worley on banjo, guitars and cuatro.

Tickets go on sale this Friday online at 9am from www.ticketmaster.co.uk or in person from 10am at the Playhouse box office.

Elected Mayor of North Tyneside, Norma Redfearn CBE, said: “It’s a real coup to secure such a great show in a smaller venue like the Playhouse, the audience will be in for a real treat.

“As the frontman of one of the biggest bands of all time, Robert Plant really needs no introduction and I’m sure seeing him and his latest project at the festival will be an amazing experience.

Support comes from special guest Catfish Keith, an American bottleneck slide guitarist with an innovative style of foot-stomping, deep delta blues and roots music.

The Playhouse will also host a show already announced by punk poet John Cooper Clarke on Monday, July 6, 2020.

The festival, now in its 16th year, takes place in Tynemouth and features spectacular outdoor concerts at Tynemouth Priory and Castle, free world-class street entertainment, a jazz stage, children’s pageant, activities in Tynemouth Station and much more.
