A former miner has turned his hand to children’s literature.
Sam Cairns, from South Shields, has had his book of children’s poetry published.
The Witch With The Wonky Broomstick And Other Funny Poems was picked up by online publishers Creativia.
The dad-of-three says he was delighted when his e-book reached ‘best seller’ status on Amazon.
The ex-pitman said: “It was great to have the book picked up by a publisher and for it to get best seller status in the children’s poetry section was fantastic.
“The main poem is about Wincy the Witch, who I’m going to write more poems and stories about in the future, and the others are funny poems about a phantom pumper, a giant snail and a bird that drinks beer.
I’ve had some really good reviews on it so far and it’s something I really enjoy doing in my spare time. I wish I could do it professionally.Sam Cairns

“I wrote the poems but the illustrations were done by a guy called Adam Clarke, from Boldon.
“I’d definitely do this full time if I could.”
The e-book is available at www.amazon.co.uk for £1.99. Sam is also selling paperback versions for £5 plus postage and packaging.
