WORLD-FAMOUS dancer Wayne Sleep is coming to South Tyneside to show his support for a visiting troupe.
Sleep will be in the audience at the Customs House, in South Shields, on Sunday night.
The performer will be at the Mill Dam venue to see a show by the North East’s first professional graduate dance company, Fertile Ground, of which he is a patron.
Sleep offered his support to the company in February.
He said: “Fertile Ground helps young dancers to develop professionally. I know that this company will inspire everyone, and wish them great success as they embark on the region-wide tour.”
Fertile Ground artistic director, Dora Frankel, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Wayne Sleep is coming to the Gala.
“Wayne has contributed so much to the world of dance and is an iconic dance celebrity with a foundation that provides scholarships for talented youngsters in all areas of theatre and dance.
“It means a great deal to the company that someone of Wayne’s reputation has recognised the importance of Fertile Ground and is supporting the company.
“The dancers are both delighted and excited to perform for Wayne on Sunday.”
The event features the world premiere of works by Tom Dale and Eleesha Drennan, as well as works by the company inspired by arts and museum exhibitions across the North East.
Tickets for the 7.30pm performance cost £12 with a £10 concession. To book, go to www.customshouse.co.uk or call 454 1234.
