An aspiring writer has turned her passion for the 1920s into her debut novel.
Ami Henderson, of Waterside Park, Hebburn, is hoping to get some feedback on her book after posting it on Amazon.
The 23-year-old penned the novel, A Good Time Gone, over the space of a year while living in France.
Ami, who has a degree in French and has just completed a teacher training course at Newcastle University, said: “I’ve always written little bits and I spent a year abroad in France and had a lot of free time so wrote the book while I was there.
“My friends and family have read it and say it’s good but I wanted to get a bit more feedback so decided to publish it myself on Kindle.
“I got some positive feedback from some literary agents but they advised me to self-publish as it is notoriously difficult for unknown writers to get published.”

A Good Time Gone is set in the summer of 1929 in New York City. It follows Rick and Caroline, who have a perfect life together until the Wall Street crash robs them of their wealth and everything that goes along with it. Searching for their old existence, they commit a crime together and flee to Paris.
Ami, who is beginning work as a supply teacher in September, said: “I’m obsessed with the 1920s and Great Gatsby so wanted to do something in that era.
“It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I think people who enjoy things like the Great Gatsby will like it. Living in France really helped with my writing about it. I lived in Paris for a month when I was 19 too so I know lots of little streets and it helped me paint a real picture of where the characters were.
“I had to do a bit more research when it came to writing about New York though. I really enjoy writing and it’s something I’d love to have as a career in the future if I could.
“Seeing my book up for sale on Amazon is quite surreal. It was just my friends and family buying it at first but I’ve began to notice a few people I don’t know getting it. I’d love for local people to show an interest in it and let me know what they think.”
