BOSSES at a new restaurant are hoping to cook up a storm in South Shields.
Aurora officially opens its doors tonight.
There is a lot of competition in South Shields but I really think we’ve got something different to offer people.Mohammed Rashid, restaurant manager
The family-run restaurant, in Burrow Street, in South Shields town centre, is serving up Indian fusion and grilled food.
Manager Mohammed Rashid, 25, said: “I’m really excited. It’s been tough getting everything together and setting everything up but now that we’re ready to open, it’s very exciting.
“I think what makes us different to other restaurants is our grilled food.
“We’re starting off small and trying and testing things to identify what sort of flavours will work and what people are looking for. It’s going to be very much catered towards what our diners want and we’ll design the grill menu around what they like and what they’re looking for. We want their feedback.
“The chefs we have have worked all over the country, in London, Manchester and all over the North East, so they have a lot of experience between them – about 30 years, actually.”
Mohammed, who lives in Chichester, South Shields, added: “I think we’ve got a beautiful restaurant and I’d like to make it into a brand and really build its identity.

“The restaurant is in quite a quiet area and it’s got a lovely atmosphere so people will be able to come in, relax, and just forget about everything else.”
Aurora opens to the public at 5.30pm tonight.
